Community members and alumni of
Andrew Jackson High School recently gathered for a community meeting in support of the school.
Alumni in attendance spanned from the 1950's to 2009, including District 3 School Board member W.C. Gentry, who graduated in 1964.
Student Dannie S. opened the meeting with a warm welcome. Following Dannie were performances by the school’s cheer squad and marching band.
Several students performed during an impressive talent showcase, in which Cherrice Robinson, a member of the 2009-2010 Miss Jackson court, performed a monologue entitled, “Black Butterfly.”
After the showcase, Principal Iranetta Wright provided the crowd with a State of the School address. During the address, Principal Wright provided the audience with important school information, including where the school is in terms of the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test (FCAT), what they are currently doing to improve, and plans for the future.
“When I walk through the halls of Andrew Jackson, I do not walk the halls of an F school with F students,” said Principal Wright. “We now have to make sure our hard work matches our accountability.”
Principal Wright encouraged the crowd to become involved and volunteer at the school. She also encouraged them to donate their time, talents and treasures by mentoring and through monetary and in-kind donations.
Superintendent Pratt-Dannals also thanked the crowd for their attendance and encouraged them to become involved in the great things going on at the school.
