Mandarin Oaks Teacher Receives Future Leaders Award

Claire Redmond, a first-grade teacher at Mandarin Oaks Elementary School, is one of only 10 recipients nationwide to receive the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics' (NCTM) Future Leaders Initial Annual Meeting Attendance Award.

The purpose of this grant is to provide financial assistance to first-time attendees at an NCTM annual meeting and exposition. For 2010–2011, the Mathematics Education Trust will fund travel, subsistence expenses, and substitute teacher costs of up to $1,200 plus meeting registration to attend this year's Annual Meeting and Exposition being held in San Diego.

To qualify for this award, Claire had to submit a proposal, information on her background and experience, and a letter of support from her principal.

Zachary Champagne, also a teacher at Mandarin Oaks, was one of the NCTM's 2009 awardees.
