Carter G. Woodson Elementary School Begins Landscape Beautification Project

Staff members from WJCT recently visited Carter G. Woodson Elementary for a groundbreaking/ribbon cutting ceremony for a new garden, part of a Jacksonville Home & Patio Show and WJCT Ready To Learn Landscape Design project.

Through its partnership with the Jacksonville Home & Patio Show, WJCT identified Carter G. Woodson Elementary, a WJCT Ready To Learn school, as the recipient of the first annual landscape beautification project. The project will consist of a garden surrounding the school's marquee.

WJCT President and CEO Michael Boylan and Principal Cheryl Quarles-Gaston participated in the ceremony, joined by a selection of the school's students with miniature shovels. Also attending were: Hillary Lyons, show manager for the Jacksonville Home & Patio Show; Mike Travis, Superior Pavers & Stone; Jason Dugger, Scapes; Tim Feagins, assistant principal; and Beth Culkeen, education outreach manager for WJCT.

"The Landscape Design Project reflects what WJCT does best, bringing community members together to nurture and encourage our youngest citizens," says WJCT President & CEO Michael Boylan. "We are happy to partner with the Jacksonville Home & Patio Show and Carter G. Woodson Elementary to enhance school grounds and further our mission of promoting joyful learning."
