For the second year in a row, the
River City Science Academy (RCSA) Olympiad Team received the first-place award at the North Florida Regional Science Olympiad Competition, held on February 27 at Lake City Community College.

The RCSA team received four gold medals, three silver medals and a bronze medal, and has been invited to the state finals, held at the University of Central Florida on April 10. Based on the results of the state finals, one Florida team will be selected to attend the National Science Olympiad at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign from May 20-22.
"The River City Science Academy Olympiad Team has represented our school and Duval County very well," said Principal Dr. Dogan Tozoglu. "RCSA is fairly a new charter school and this was our second year participating in the competition. This is a great victory for our students, and we are looking forward to the state finals."
During science Olympiad competitions, which are held in all 50 states at the regional, state and then national level, students engage in hands-on science activities. Students compete against other schools in different events in various subject areas, such as physics, chemistry, earth space science, biology and engineering.
The school's science Olympiad coordinator and coach, Mr. Ozyilmaz, also received the best coach award of the event.
