Spotlight On Education

Ribault Legends Ball Honors Alumni

The Ribault Legends Ball was held at the Hyatt Regency Jacksonville Riverfront to honor the students that integrated Jean Ribault High School in 1966. Additionally, teachers that have taught for more than 30 years at Ribault High School were honored as Teaching Legends.

This year's honorees in attendance were members of the "Ribault 10": Maxine Engram, Jean Downing and Patricia Pearson, daughter of Rutledge H. Pearson.

The Teaching Legends were Linda Ghanayem, Coach Al Austin and Clifford Buggs.

The Ribault Legends Ball was conceived and chaired by Marques Wilkes, a graduate of Ribault High School and math teacher at Ribault Middle School. He is also the son of legendary boys' basketball coach, Coach Bernard Wilkes, who died in 2006 after 30 years of teaching and coaching at Ribault.

In attendance were Superintendent Ed Pratt-Dannals and Middle School Cluster Chief and former Ribault High Principal Lawrence Dennis.

Musical entertainment was provided by acclaimed artist and Ribault alumni, Joy Dennis and Mezzo Forte. Also co-chairing the event were former Chief of Staff of the Duval County Public Schools and the first black principal of Ribault, Dr. Alvin G. White, along with former Magnet Coordinator and Ribault administrator Dr. Norma Solomon White.
