Good News Around DCPS
Many exciting things have been happening at our schools lately. Here’s a quick snapshot of some good news:
- Congratulations to the
Landmark Middle School Cheerleaders and head coach Jennifer Gaulier for placing first in the Junior High/Middle School Mount Division at the Cheerleaders of America River City Championships Cheerleading Competition. The Landmark team was also named the grand champions of the school division.
- Parents at
Biscayne Elementary School are participating in a parent book talk on
30 Ways in 30 Days to Save Your Family by Rebecca Hagelin. This is a weekly discussion among parents who have the challenge of raising children in today’s society. The discussions are facilitated by Principal Crystal Lewis every Tuesday evening through March 23.
Biscayne Elementary will also be hosting their annual Family Fun Day and Blood Drive on Friday, March 26, from 2 to 6 p.m.
-
Students at
Oceanway Elementary had a special day of learning when members of The Roar visited their school to read to them during a literacy celebration. Everyone at the school appreciates cheerleaders Allie and Kember for taking time out of their day to share their love of reading. Go Jags!
- Many students kicked off the FCAT at schools throughout the district by having pep and prep rallies.
Woodland Acres Elementary students prepare skits, dances, songs and motivational performances to get pumped up and prepared to get a 5! Their younger peers who are not old enough to take the test supported their older classmates by sending posters, candy and other treats of encouragement.
Students at
Brentwood Elementary were entertained at their pep rally by the Andrew Jackson High School Band, and also heard a motivational speech from Duval County Court Judge Pauline Drake.
Staff and students from
Enterprise Learning Academy had an outdoor Prep Rally with skits, costumes, music, encouraging posters, a hula hoop contest and more. To see pictures, visit
