San Mateo Elementary, an accelerated academy magnet school, recently celebrated 100 days of San Mateo success, the 100th day of school, in a fun and mathematical way.
Beginning at the 100th minute of school, 10:10 a.m., students in all grade levels participated in 100 minutes of mathematics. Sponsored activities were planned by the standards coach, Karen Gardiner.
Most grade levels taught mini lessons on the five strands of mathematics, but one grade level took a unique approach to 100. Students from the third-grade classes collected 100 cans of food, and then charted and graphed their data per class.
Teachers say the day was a total success, and many students can’t wait for next year’s 100th day of school for another unique approach to learning about 100.
