Frances Keiser, author of the Pelican Pete books and the new Backyard Adventure series, recently visited
Oak Hill Elementary as part of the school's Author Day.
While at the school, Mrs. Keiser conducted three student assemblies in the school’s cafeteria and also visited classrooms in the school’s Autistic Unit. Mrs. Keiser shared some important facts about pelicans with the students and discussed some environmental issues being faced in our area.
Each classroom received a copy of the book First Discoveries, which teaches the history of St. Augustine, Florida. In addition to the book donations, Mrs. Keiser provided each student with a special bookmark.
After her classroom visits, Mrs. Keiser invited a top reader from each class and their parents to a special luncheon.
The Keisers’, who currently live in St. Augustine, write books with an environmental theme. Their new series,
Backyard Adventures, encourage children to get out and explore plants and animals in their own backyard and area.
Written contribution by Oak Hill instructional coach Debbie Bornowski.
