Spotlight On Education

Celebrating our 2010 National Board Certified Teachers

This year, 33 Duval County Public Schools' teachers earned National Board Certification through the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS). Achieving National Board Certification is the highest symbol of professional teaching excellence.

Becoming a National Board Certified teacher is a rigorous process. To qualify for certification, an applicant must currently hold a bachelor’s degree, have completed three full years of teaching/counseling experience and possess a valid state teaching/counseling license for that period of time.

Once the application is accepted by the NBPTS, it may take an applicant up to three years to become certified. This process involves the submission of four portfolios, of which three must be classroom based, and completion of six exercises demonstrating knowledge in their chosen certificate area.

Each of these individuals worked hard to achieve this important designation, and we applaud their commitment and achievement.

We also acknowledge our partner, Duval Teachers United (DTU), who works equally-hard throughout the entire certification process. DTU assists in every aspect of the National Board Certification process.

Congratulations to this year's National Board Certified teachers:
