Cultural Arts week at
Chets Creek Elementary is a celebration of the arts through school-wide student art shows, presentations by various artists each morning, guest musicians playing throughout the day and a huge culminating event, the Arts Extravaganza.
The guest presenters this year were Sugar and Spice Puppetry, the Jacksonville Symphony ensemble, Glenis Redmond "Miss Poetic", Orisirisi (African storytelling and drums), and the Banjo man from The Listening Project.
Art teacher Jen Snead said the students were spellbound by each of the artists.
Former Chets Creek students and a professional pianist played during lunch and dismissal throughout the week. Also on display the entire week was the school-wide student art show, allowing families and visitors with the opportunity to see the works the students have been creating.
On Friday evening at the Arts Extravaganza, students and their families participated in a variety of free hands-on art activities, including basket weaving, metal tooling, glass mosaics, decorating wooden maracas and sand art, to name a few. The guest artists for the evening included a portrait painter, jewelry artists, clay artists, a printmaker and a fiber artist.
What a wonderful week of fun, fascination, and art infusion at Chets Creek Elementary!
