Pinedale Students Get Close to Wildlife at St. Augustine's Alligator Farm

Pinedale Elementary's ESE Pre-Kindergarten students, along with parents, staff and faculty, recently went on a field trip to St. Augustine’s Alligator Farm and Zoological Park.

While visiting the Alligator Farm, students participated in the Pre-K Curriculum program Jump, Slither, and Slide. This program identifies the many different ways the animals at the farm move.

“The purpose of the trip was for the students to experience, through their various learning modalities, the many different animals roaming around in a semi-natural environment,” said Kirk Altman, a Pinedale pre-K disabilities teacher. “This trip is based on our curriculum, classroom libraries and student/teacher created books, including: Who is the Beast; The Very Hungry Caterpillar; Jump Frog Jump; Lady Bug Lady Bug, Where Are You?; Panda Bear, Panda Bear, What Do You See?; and Polar Bear, Polar Bear, What Do You Hear?”

The students, staff and their families were able to visit the Alligator Farm and Zoological Park thanks to the generous gift of free admission for the students and discounted admission for the parents/chaperones by Mr. David Drysdale, the owner of the Alligator Farm. Mr. Alan Due, principal of Pinedale, added to the trip by providing a bus to St. Augustine.

“Both generosities afford our special needs students and their parents a very unique opportunity to visit this wonderful Florida landmark,” said Altman.
