Englewood High School’s “RamPage” was recently recognized by the Florida Times-Union as one of the best school newspapers in Clay, Duval and St. Johns counties.
“This is a unique honor for Englewood, and it shows that given an even playing field all students can achieve at the highest possible level,” said Englewood High Principal Alvin Brennan. “I am so proud of my kids, and love sharing the great things happening at Englewood!”
The student staff members of the “RamPage” were awarded first place in three of the top six writing categories in the Florida Times-Union's High School News Paper Competition.
With four writing awards, the editors of the Florida Times-Union argued that the “RamPage” had the best written stories overall compared to the 15 or so other school newspapers competing from the tri-county area.
The "RamPage" reporters beat out more than 400 other entries from more than a dozen schools.
"RamPage" winners:
- Shana Dorsey received First Place in News Writing for her story on Englewood’s school grade and the many complex reasons behind it;
- Michelle Davis received First Place in column writing for her piece on facing and overcoming her struggles in recent years;
- Britny Logan, RamPage editor, got First Place for feature writing, for the stories on the school’s diversity, including several on students who have come from other countries for many reasons; and
- Jessica Keathley received second place for feature writing, for her stories about Englewood’s teachers through the years.
