Sandalwood's S.A.IN.T. Academy Hosts First Annual Media Day

The Sandalwood High Academy of Information Technology (S.A.IN.T.) recently opened the academy classrooms to business partners, parents, teachers and district personnel for its First Annual Media Day.

The event showcased interactive whiteboards, LCD projectors, document cameras and the Qwizdom Student Response Systems used by the academy’s core subject teachers, which allows them to integrate technology into their specific curriculum and enhance the learning environment for their students.

The student response systems promote data driven differentiated instruction and meet the learning needs of each of our students by providing immediate feedback on assessments and maintain engagement in the classroom.

Since opening its doors in the fall of 2007, the academy has received more than $75,000 in grants to outfit each of the classrooms with state-of-the-art equipment.

The academy is for students in grades 9-12 who want to enhance their high school career with an infusion of technology in their regular classrooms as well as gain “real world experience.”

The unique program allows students to receive a jump start on their education and careers. Industry certification, project-based learning and paid internships are combined with rigorous academic studies. Both tracks provided by the academy, Information Technology and Geospatial Technology, offer college credit and industry standard certifications.

The academy partners with businesses and organizations, including Blue Cross Blue Shield of Florida, Jaxport, the University of North Florida, St. Johns County Public Works and many other local agencies to provide student internships, job shadowing opportunities and mentoring.
