Four fourth-graders in Mrs. Regina Thomas’s class at
Brentwood Elementary School of the Arts recently received awards from D.W. Perkins Bar Association for essays they wrote about illegal alien rights.
For the contest, the students had to choose three laws they felt were important and write a two-page essay.
The students were recognized at a ceremony at the Omni Hotel. The Honorable Judge Pauline Drake presented the following awards: First place, Carla Reddick, $100; second-place, Laniya Dawsey, $50; and third place (tie) Mkayla Clark and Mizan White, $25.
In addition, students received other gifts, including a pizza party for their entire class.
The students also had a chance to meet Judge Karen Mills-Francis who has her own TV show, Judge Karen’s Court.
Art Awards
The following students were honored at the Best of Elementary Art exhibit hanging at the FSCJ Kent Campus: Angelica Rodriguez, Morgan George, Doniell Styrrup and Julia Kutsch. Julia also won a special Administration Award during the show.
Student Xavier Glenn had his artwork selected to hang in the Regional administrative, and student Valeria Ortiz will have her work displayed in the Brentwood Library show.
ESOL Award
Congratulations to Valeria Rios, a fourth-grader in Ms. Malone’s class, who was awarded a medal for ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) at Wolfson High School.
“We instill in our students to do their best and be the best at whatever challenge is brought before them,” said teacher Regina Thomas. “We are so proud of all of our students at Brentwood Elementary School of the Arts.”
