Student athletes from high schools throughout the district were recently recognized during the 2010
Gateway Conference Banquet.
The purpose of the Gateway Conference is: to foster and promote interscholastic athletics within the conference; to aid in the development and promotion of better fellowship and closer athletic relations between members; to instill democratic ideals of team play, sportsmanship and a desire to succeed; and to inspire self-discipline and self-determination in the youth of the respective schools.
The Gateway Conference consists of 15 Duval County High Schools: Englewood, Terry Parker, Stanton, First Coast, Paxon, Fletcher, Raines, Forrest, Ribault, Andrew Jackson, Sandalwood, Robert E. Lee, Ed White, Mandarin and Wolfson.
An All-Conference Team is chosen by the head coaches in each sport under the supervision of the sports supervisor of that sport. To become an all-conference selection, a student must be academically eligible for the entire sports season including any post-season tournaments that his/ her team may be involved in. A player must play a minimum of 50 percent of the conference-scheduled matches before he/ she can be considered for all conference.
