Recently, Duval County Public Schools' (DCPS) students in grades first through fifth participated in the Annual Sunshine Math Competition, which consists of grade-level exams scored on site by a select group of teachers and coaches.
All participating Duval County elementary schools sent one student from each grade level to compete in the annual competition.
While students were being tested, parents were presented with information on accessing free resources on the district’s newly adopted textbooks.
After testing, students and their parents were treated to some entertainment provided by DCPS’ employees and student performers.
All students were recognized for their participation in the competition. The following students received a special recognition for their first-place win:

Sunshine Math is an enhancement program run by volunteers for grades K-8, and provides an extra challenge for self-motivated students in mathematics. The objective of the program is to expand a student’s interest in independent thinking, teach responsibility, and develop critical thinking skills.
