Sandalwood Seniors Named Winners of Essay Contest

Three Sandalwood High School seniors received three of the top four awards for the Insurance Women of Jacksonville Association’s annual Drinking and Driving Essay Contest.

During a special breakfast on May 20, Antonia Brown was named the first runner-up receiving $300; Kerra Nicholas was named the second runner-up receiving $200; and Thomas Ulwelling was named the third runner-up receiving $100.

Also in attendance at the breakfast were members of the Insurance Women of Jacksonville Association and Chief David Stevens of the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, who presented a proclamation from Sheriff John Rutherford, supporting the association's efforts to promote awareness of the dangers of drinking and driving.

The featured speaker during the event was Jacksonville resident Carl Harms, who lost his father and best friend in an automobile accident.
