For more than 10 years, the Patrol Squadron 45 (VP-45) Pelicans of NAS Jacksonville have visited
Cedar Hills Elementary to share information about their squadron and read books to the students.
Last year, deployment took precedence and the squad was unable to come, but the students were excited to welcome back VP-45 this year, thanks to a visit organized by Junior Achievement of North Florida and the school’s student activities coordinator, Vicky Banks.
At the flag raising ceremony, VP-45 Commander Doherty spoke to the students briefly about career possibilities, and then the service men and women, as well as other special guests, visited the classrooms to read.
According to Principal Laverne Hamilton, the students were awed by the presence of the squadron, and listened intently as they shared information about their careers and work.
