Spotlight On Education

Documentary from DA Cinematic Arts Students Traveling Around the U.S.

Students enrolled in the Cinematic Arts Department at Douglas Anderson School of the Arts recently produced and directed a documentary entitled, Sudden Death: The Story of James Hendrick, and their documentary is now being featured in various film festivals throughout the country.

The 18-minute documentary tells the story of Fletcher High student James Hendrick, who suffered commotio cordis after blunt force trauma to his chest while playing high school lacrosse.

Under the guidance of their teacher, Dr. Corey Thayer, the students created a film that allows viewers to experience firsthand the incident of Hendrick through the narrative accounts of the people associated with James, and those who have made it their mission to bring Automated External Defibrillators (AED) awareness to public schools in the State of Florida and nationwide.

An article about the documentary was also recently featured in a national lacrosse publication that has more than 1 million subscribers, and the film has also been promoted by Parent Heart Watch.
