Biltmore Elementary recently hosted its first math night featuring a segment modeled after the TV show
Are You Smarter than a Fifth Grader?
It was second- through fifth-grade students vs. their parents for a series of math games. The parents were victorious over the students; however, the students are demanding a rematch.
During the challenge, the first-graders enjoyed activities from the book
The Math Curse.
Every student who participated received a gift bag full of math tools to enjoy at home with their families. The winning team - the parents - were awarded the gold medal and the students received the silver medal. Another family was the lucky recipient of a personal DVD player.
The students, staff and parents had a lot of fun and are looking forward to their third annual Math Field Day in mid-March.
