Every weekend,
Enterprise Learning Academy first-grade teacher Jessica Ehlinger sends one of her students home with the story There's a Wocket in
My Pocket by Dr. Seuss, along with a journal, The Wild Adventures of the Wocket, and a stuffed animal representing the title character. The student is asked to write a journal entry about his/her weekend with the Wocket and how they spent their time together.
Student Brandon F. recently spent his weekend at the Middleburg home where the TV show Extreme Home Makeover is building a house, and got designer Michael Moloney to take a picture with him and his Wocket.
Ehlinger says the students love the project and are excited when it's their weekend to take Wocket home.
"It really encourages reading and writing in my first graders."
What a fun and academically engaging way to spend the weekend!
