Students at Wolfson and Fletcher High Schools Want Their Voices Heard

Wolfson High students recently participated in a voter’s registration rally to highlight the importance of going to the polls and voting. All juniors and seniors were invited to the rally, which was held in the school’s auditorium and included guest speaker, Jerry Holland, Supervisor of Elections.

The students were excited to take part in the rally and were eager to participate in the assembly. These students will also participate in the 2011 Countywide Student Voter Registration Drive being held February 1 through February 3.

More than 56 public and private high schools, colleges and universities are participating in this year's event. This year's goal is to pre-register and register 7,500 students who are 16 and older. Thanks to school officials working with the supervisor of elections staff, students throughout the county will be able to register to vote in history classes, during lunchtime, between class periods and even after school.

Students at Fletcher High School were also visited by the Supervisor of Elections. He spoke to classes about the importance of participating in the democratic process. He encouraged the students to take an active role in determining the outcome of their futures. After the registration rally at Fletcher was completed, they had registered or pre-registered approximately 500 new voters.
