Long Branch Elementary was honored by one of their own when Vincent Taylor took the stage to share his love for rapping and reading.
Taylor is the math coach at Long Branch Elementary, and also the author and publisher of a series of children's books centered on a character named Cornbread, a precocious schoolboy whose experiences mirror those of many other young children.
Cornbread joined in as Taylor launched into raps and rhymes designed to teach children to read. Each student received two books and had a chance to meet, greet and take pictures with Cornbread.
This was a very special event for the students because they got to meet a children’s author who teaches right at their school.
“It was exciting to see Mr. Taylor “come alive” in a new light, as he spends most of his hours as the school’s math coach,” said teacher Brooke Cobbin. “The students were shocked to see that he also had a passion for reading and children’s literature. He mixed hip-hop with his love of reading and shared it with all.”
Both the students and staff of Long Branch enjoyed this engaging and motivating literacy experience.
