Bank of America Learning Academy celebrated literacy during Florida’s Celebrate Literacy Week with a wide variety of activities, including a day of mystery readers and a school-wide poster contest. To end the week, the school welcomed its first-ever guest author, Larry Levy of the
Harry the Hungry Frog children’s book series.

Levy joined Principal Alan Due and student host Tyler for the school’s morning announcements via closed-circuit TV, and showed students a video about the production of his books. He then hosted two assemblies and read one of his books,
Harry the Hungry Frog - Harry Ventures Out, and took questions afterward about reading and writing.
Many of the students told him they were writing their own books.
“The more you read the better you will write, and the more you write the better you will read,” he said. “Authors are great writers because they are great readers.”
Levy explained to the students that even writing about the simplest subjects, like a frog, can make for a great writing experience, and he encouraged the students to always read and write.
After Levy’s presentation, Principal Due reiterated to students that there are many subjects in their lives right now they can write about.
“Mr. Levy took everyday things and wrote about them,” Due said. “You can write about the normal things you see on a daily basis and put a creative spin on them.”
The students and staff said it was a privilege to have Larry Levy join them to celebrate literacy.
