FAMU Awards $540,000 in Scholarships to DCPS’ Students

Florida Agriculture and Mechanical University (FAMU) recently awarded more than $540,000 in scholarships to Duval County Public Schools' (DCPS) students, including one student who received the top award, the Life-Gets Better (LGB) Scholarship valued at $64,000.

Lindsey Fields, a senior at Paxon School for Advanced Studies, was the only student to receive the LGB Scholarship. In addition to covering tuition, and room and board, the LGB scholarship provides a laptop computer, stipend and a summer internship.

Students from Stanton College Preparatory, A. Philip Randolph Academies of Technology, Raines, Lee, Forrest, First Coast, Ribault, Wolfson and Andrew Jackson high schools also received scholarships from FAMU.

Other scholarships that were awarded were the Distinguished Scholar Award, which covers tuition and room and board for all four years, and the George W. Gore Assistantship, which awards an amount of money to students based on their SAT or ACT scores.

“Receiving these scholarships is a great honor and I am proud of the students for their hard work and dedication to their education,” said DCPS’ Superintendent Ed Pratt-Dannals. “The scholarships provided by FAMU will encourage the students to continue to excel in college and beyond.”
