Wolfson High School students recently had the opportunity to meet Florida’s Lieutenant Governor, Jennifer Carroll, during her visit to their school. Lieutenant
Governor Carroll began her visit by speaking to an auditorium full of graduating seniors. During her presentation she encouraged the seniors to set goals for themselves and stressed the importance of staying on the right path to achieve those goals. She also shared personal stories about her experiences with sending her children off to college.
One thing the Lieutenant Governor wanted the students to understand was that once they graduate high school they become responsible for their own actions and no one will be there to hold them accountable for attending classes or completing assignments on time. The class president then presented Lieutenant Governor Carroll with school memorabilia as a thank you for dedicating her time to speaking to them.
Lieutenant Governor Carroll then met with the National Honor Society students in the media center for a more intimate discussion on their future aspirations and fears. After asking each student their college plans, she spent a few moments talking to the students about remaining focused and making smart decisions both in their education and in life. The students then had the opportunity to ask her a few questions about her life choices and her decision to run with Governor Scott for the Lieutenant Governor position. When asked what job she would love to have, she replied that she would love to be an Ambassador.
The rest of the morning consisted of the Lieutenant Governor visiting classrooms and reminding all students that the fundamental skills they are learning now are the building blocks to success for their future, and these skills can be applied to all areas of life. As a parting message, she strongly suggested to the students that they take their SATs/ACTs as soon as possible to allow time to prepare themselves and improve their scores. Before she left, the Lieutenant Governor was sent off with a brief dedication ceremony by the school’s JROTC members.
Also in attendance for the morning’s events were School Board member Fred “Fel” Lee, Supervisor of Elections Jerry Holland and the Chief of the Secondary Turnaround Cluster Tony Bellamy.
