The exchange students from Argentina have arrived at
Fletcher High School as part of the Jacksonville Sister Cities Association (JSCA). Every year, a group of students from our sister city, Bahia Blanca, come to visit Jacksonville for three weeks. The students enjoy visiting the Mayor's office, touring Sally Industries and even attending classes with their host students at Fletcher High.
The students are here for part of their summer break. During our summer break, students from Fletcher will have the opportunity to visit Argentina for a few weeks. Mrs. Alice Hill, department head for world languages and the A.P. Spanish teacher at Fletcher, is the school liaison and organizer for the exchange students. She has been working with the JSCA and the exchange students from Argentina for several years. She always enjoys traveling to Argentina with the students as their chaperone.
The opportunity for Fletcher students to meet the Argentinean students here and then travel to Argentina where they get to stay with the family of that exchange student is priceless. Students learn more about culture and language through this experience with their new Argentine families than they can in the four walls of a classroom during the entire semester.
The students also visited the office of Superintendent Ed Pratt-Dannals. The Superintendent, along with Dr. Joanne Davis, the district’s supervisor of world languages, presented the students with special certificates.
