DCPS Hosts Chinese Celebration of Language and Culture

Duval County Public Schools recently held its third-annual Celebration of Chinese Language and Culture at Mandarin Oaks Elementary.

During the celebration event, students presented songs, dances, skits and even a Chinese rap act. The students from the Chinese School of Jacksonville presented a Fan Dance to conclude the program.

The teachers did a superb job of presenting highly creative performances. The program included remarks by Dr. Yongan Wu, professor of Chinese at the University of North Florida.

Chinese programs are now available at eight schools in the district: Rufus Payne and Mandarin Oaks elementary schools; Ribault and Mandarin middle schools; Raines, Mandarin and Atlantic Coast high schools; and Stanton College Preparatory School. The Chinese instructors are Huey Chen, Yinlei Ma, Yan Li, Yan Lan, Qin Li and Mei Lian Lu.
