Voter Registration Drive in Duval County’s High Schools

Supervisor of Elections Jerry Holland recently announced the winners of the Freedom Award for the 2011 Countywide Student Voter Registration Drive, which was conducted from February 1 through 3, 2011.

The winners of the 2011 Countywide Student Voter Registration Drive for the public schools were broken down into three categories according to their overall student population: small schools that had 743 students or less that were eligible to register; medium schools that had between 744 and 1,099 eligible students; and large schools that had 1,100 or more eligible students. A total of 6,996 Duval County students were registered to vote during the 2011 Countywide Registration Drive.

Supervisor Holland presented each school with an award to recognize the school’s success through their hard work in this year's Countywide Student Voter Registration Drive.

Holland visited Mandarin High and presented them with a Freedom Award for registering a total of 999 students, making Mandarin the overall winner for registering the most students in this year's Countywide Student Voter Registration Drive.

He also visited First Coast High to present them with this year’s large public school award for registering 36 percent of its student body. Paxon School for Advanced Studies received the medium public school category award for registering 52 percent of its eligible students. The winner for the small public school category is Darnell-Cookman for registering 77 percent of its eligible students. Douglas Anderson School of the Arts also will receive a certificate for registering the largest number of students in the small school category.

Congratulations to each of these schools for an outstanding job in getting our youth involved in the political spectrum.
