John E. Ford K-8 was recently named a recipient of a $3,430 Lowe’s Toolbox for Education Grant and, thanks to the grant, will soon have a vegetable and butterfly garden on the school campus.
The purpose of the grant is for students to learn gardening skills and about plant life, and it also teaches them about giving back to the community and building community partnerships.
To help the students with the grant, volunteers and business partners from NAS Jacksonville visited the school on a Saturday to help prepare planters.
The school will be having a follow up event in mid-March for the students and their families to plant gardens in the planters.
Now in its fifth year of helping build better schools and communities, the Lowe's Toolbox for Education program has provided more than $20 million to nearly 5,000 schools across the country. For more information, visit www.toolboxforeducation.com.
