Students throughout Duval County took the FCAT the week of April 11-April 15. Leading up to this week, many schools spent a great deal of time mentally and emotionally preparing their students to excel on this test.
At
Don Brewer Elementary, students, teachers and parents gathered around the flag pole for a pep rally on Friday afternoon. The theme of the pep rally centered on “finishing the race” and students had the opportunity to see many classic cars from all around town.

To get the children motivated and promote an “I Can” attitude, a local motorcycle racer spoke to the children. The pep rally also included FCAT cheers from the teachers as well as songs from the Sandalwood High School band. At the end of the pep rally, the drivers “revved” their engines to get the students “revved up” for FCAT.
Ramona Boulevard Elementary also wanted to get their students excited for the FCAT. Students ended their Friday afternoon with a skit-like pep rally. The entire skit was hosted by Angel Lane, a very hip “old woman” who affectionately referred to all the students as “sugar.”
The pep rally began with a performance by the school’s cheerleaders, then the students and teachers enjoyed a step routine by the gentlemen of perfection and the skool girls. Several teachers used their creativity to re-write popular books and songs to reflect FCAT success, including
‘Twas the Night Before FCAT, the popular song “We Will Rock You,” the song “California Girls” and an FCAT rap. Lastly, two ROAR cheerleaders reminded the students to eat a good breakfast and get a good night sleep every day.

Enterprise Learning Academy celebrated a whole week leading up to the FCAT with FCAT Blitz Week. During this week, students were involved in lots of jeopardy-type activities to exercise their brain before the test.
At the end of the week, Enterprise held a pep rally for all of the students. The Mandarin High cheerleaders and drum line performed while Enterprise students danced and cheered along. Two “Minute to Win It” teacher contests took place and the winners won a pencil sharpener for their class. Even the kindergarten through second-grade students showed their support by giving high fives to all of the older students as they walked back into the building.
