Jamie France, a junior in the
Sandalwood High AVID program, won the regional level competition of the International Optimist Oratorical Contest. Jamie’s topic, "Embracing Optimism" qualifies her for the district competition that offers several $2,500 and $1,500 scholarships.
Jamie’s speech was written in response to the topic, "If I Were a Leader of the Free World, the First Issue I Would Address Would Be..." In her speech she explains, "if we took a step back and looked at our everyday routines, we would realize that the root of all conflict often stems from our attitudes and philosophy of life." She charged her audience to choose an optimistic, peaceful outlook in order to bring true change to our world.
Jamie’s speech demonstrates her determination and drive to make a positive difference in our future. Congratulations Jamie on a superb job in this competition!
