Charity Walk Attracts Hundreds to Support Two DCPS' Schools

The third annual Charity Walk to raise funds to support Garden City Elementary and Highlands Middle Schools was held recently.

The Pastor of Open Arms Christian Fellowship Church wanted to be one to assist the schools in the community. He decided to adopt and support the two schools that are near the church. This is a 5K walk that starts at the church on Dunn Avenue continuing down Wingate, around to Capper Rd, and up Lem Turner back to the church grounds where vendors were set-up.

The walk was lead out by the band from Highlands Middle followed by the pastor, his wife, the principals from both schools, administrators and teachers. Also participating in the walk were School Board member Paula D. Wright and the district supervisor of Language Arts, Jacque Bowen, and state representative Audrey Gibson.

Hundreds turned out from all around the community, while others cheered walkers on as they walked through the community. Walkers wore t-shirts that read “Helping Our Community One Step at a Time.”
