Nathan B. Forrest Receives Logistics Academy Grant Award

Recently, Nathan B. Forrest High was awarded a grant in support of their logistics academy. This $10,000 grant from the Grainger Foundation will be used to support the school’s activities and expenses. The logistics program is in the year of inception at Nathan B. Forrest High.

The transportation and logistics industry in Jacksonville is a targeted industry for the regional economic development Board and is a strategic part of the workforce development for the region.

Approximately 300 students in Duval County are pursuing a program of study including logistics where they can choose multiple career paths like: operations, systems, information technology, transportation, distribution, warehousing, management and others. The industry is expected to drastically grow by 2014 due to the widening of the Panama Canal and the deepwater seaport in Jacksonville.

This program was heavily endorsed by many business partners and post-secondary partners. Two other logistics programs are currently implemented; one at First Coast High School and the other at Robert E. Lee High School.
