Three members of the
Mandarin
Medical Club won a slot to compete in the National Leadership Conference June 26 -29, 2011 in Anaheim, California. Cameo Isleborn, Louise Liu and Tyana Mathis gave a presentation in the Public Health Emergency Preparedness category on the topic of the flu and obtained first-place. The state competition included more than 3000 students competing in various health care categories.
The newly founded club is under the guidance of Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) and is in partnership with the Mandarin High School Medical Academy.
HOSA provides a unique program of leadership development, motivation and recognition by providing opportunities for knowledge, skills and leadership development of all health occupations students, therefore, helping the student meet the needs of the health care community. Along with competing in HOSA events the club is giving its’ members opportunities to coordinate volunteer events for the community.
Since its’ origin in October of 2010 the club has been involved in a few volunteer events. They assisted the staff at River Gardens in putting on their carnival and volunteered their services at the Special Olympics. The club also ran a food/supply drive for Second Hand Rescue, an animal rescue organization.
Congratulations to these students and good luck at the national competition in California.
