Tenth-grade anatomy and physiology students at
Darnell-Cookman School of the Medical Arts had the opportunity to be an ENT surgeon for the day at the second annual Sinus Day, hosted by the school’s business partner, Medtronic-Jacksonville.
Medtronic, visionary leaders in the medical-technology field, like to provide community outreach to students by offering programs that simulate real life experiences.
To start the day, a 3-D presentation of sinus anatomy was given by Dr. Rowan Valentine, a fellow colleague of world renowned neuro surgeon, Dr. Rhoton, from the University of Florida. An added bonus in this year’s Sinus Day was a live nasolaryngosopy that gave students a look at a very special set of vocal cords that belonged to their assistant principal, Tabbatha Morris.
This event was a great opportunity for students to experience hands-on training in their field of interest. It also allowed them to communicate with professionals and learn in-depth knowledge about medical technology and procedures.
