Mary Chowenhill, teacher at
Robert E. Lee High School, was presented with the Charles Harper Economic Educator of the Year award by the Florida Council of Economic Education (FCEE). FCEE is the organization in Florida that for the past 32 years has strived to provide workshops and activities to enhance financial and economic education in the state of Florida.
The Charles Harper award was created in 1995 to honor the retiring head of the Securities and Exchange Commission's Miami office. The award is given to a teacher who demonstrates excellence in financial literacy, free enterprise or economic education over a period of time. The judging is based on the recipient’s creativity, innovation, dedication, and success in motivating students and other teachers.
Ms. Chowenhill’s commitment to preparing students to make intelligent financial decisions and be productive citizens of society is why she was chosen as the winner of this award. Ms. Chowenhill has been teaching personal finance and economic classes for 28 years and is currently the professional learning community facilitator for AP Economics teachers in Duval County.
Congratulations Ms. Chowenhill on receiving this honor. We appreciate all of your contributions to our students and teachers.
