After a year of dedication and hard work, the DCPS and Teen Court Mural Project was officially revealed for the first time earlier today. The mural project entitled, “Design For Our Future,” includes elements of inclusion, progression and higher education.
For almost a year, three Jacksonville students, who are also Teen Court participants, worked with the district to develop an artistic depiction of a new Jacksonville. The mural symbolizes the elements necessary for success and embraces the philosophy and mission of achieving “One City, One Vision.”
The mural was unveiled at a ribbon-cutting ceremony with special guests, Superintendent Pratt-Dannals and Board member Paula D. Wright. Two of the three artists, Treyshawn Jones and William Reed, were present for the ceremony and shared with the guests their experience with the project. The third artist, Jason Howle, could not attend.
The students spent a lot of hours working together on this mural to create a vision that was first expressed on a small scale and then enlarged to an entire wall on the fourth floor of the administration building. These three students did an incredible job on this piece of artwork. They are all inspirational young teens and leaders to their peers.
