Recently,
Baldwin's Chemistry teachers, Mrs. Lee and Mrs. Murphy, had their Chemistry 1 classes participate in the "Foul Water" lab.
During the lab, which took students two full class periods to complete, they took a sample of dirty water, skimmed the top off the water to get rid of any oil, filtered it through gravel and sand, and then filtered it through charcoal.
“The students really enjoyed the lab, especially when the water was “clean” in the end,” said Mrs. Lee.
For the lab experiment, students were able to use some new equipment along with older equipment they’ve used in the past, including ring stands, funnels, beakers, gravel, rocks, sand, paper cups and droppers.
“The Foul Water Lab was fun and I learned how to purify water,” said junior Brandie Dube.
This is a lab that the Chemistry 1 classes complete every year.
