Students and staff at
Oak Hill Elementary recently participated in WalkSafe, a school-based pedestrian safety intervention program that teaches elementary children about the benefits of walking safely to and from school. WalkSafe encourages everyone throughout their communities to help advocate children safely engaging in a healthy and active lifestyle.
For the walk, Oak Hill partnered with the Florida Department of Health, as well as had student volunteers from the University of North Florida.
Teachers and volunteers met up with students who are normally bused to school, but were dropped off at Jefferson Davis Middle specifically for the walk. Students reviewed safety tips and followed their chaperones on a safe walk from the middle school to their elementary school.
After the walk, the entire school gathered around the flag pole to discuss more ways to walk to school safely.
