Students and staff at
Sadie T. Tillis Elementary recently kicked off the school-wide launch of their Million Word Reading Campaign with a storybook character parade and a cheer rally.

The entire student body gathered with their teachers and the Forrest High School Band, who were there to get the students more pumped up about reading.
Students in each grade level presented their class cheers with pride, shouting why their grade would read the most books. Teachers, who were dressed as their favorite book character, helped the students with their cheers.
Special guest readers visited classrooms throughout the rest of the day, and later in the week, the school hosted a Family Literacy Night, providing parents with the opportunity to visit classrooms and participate in reading activities with the teachers.
If the students meet their challenge of reading a million words, they will get to decide what happens to Principal Kimberly Dennis, like a sliming, dunking or who knows what else.
The top readers from each grade level will also have the opportunity to go on a limo ride with Principal Dennis to Dave & Busters at the end of the school year.
