The North Florida Special Olympics Surf Team recently competed in the world's first-ever Special Olympics Surfing Competition at Cocoa Beach. The team took home a total of 14 medals.
There were six heats in the competition and the team received four gold medals and two silver medals for those heats. In the final heat, all the gold medalists competed against each other and the North Florida Special Olympics Surf Team was awarded second-, third-, fourth- and fifth-places.
Two Duval County students from Palm Avenue Exceptional Student Center, Brittany Burgoyne and Sarah Appleton, brought home gold and silver medals, respectively.
