Red Ribbon Week Activities at Biscayne & Saint Clair Evans Academy Elementary

Biscayne Elementary brought awareness to students about the dangers of drugs, and celebrated how they can continue to live drug free during Red Ribbon Week.

The week started with door decorating displays. Teachers covered their doors with the message “Say No to Drugs.” On Tuesday, teachers and students wore crazy hair styles and backwards clothes to a pep rally where they saw five different things that they can do instead of participating in drugs.

Students watched Mrs. Gilyard, their school counselor, ride a bike down the cafeteria aisles. Next, students witnessed other students play catch ball. Then, the Biscayne Chorus sang “Say No to Drugs” at the top of their lungs. Mr. Reams first-grade class showed off their skills by singing a one-of-a-kind rap song, and the audience cheered as teachers and students competed to see who could drink chocolate milk the fastest. Finally, Biscayne’s step team, Rhythm, stomped a clear message to stay drug free.

On Thursday, students took time to write messages that would encourage one another to stay drug free.

The week culminated with a visit from four Navy personnel, LSC(EXW/SW) Kenyatta H. Bennett, LS1(AW) Shunquita Neal, AT2(AW) Krista Francis and AME2(AW) Grace Schoch. They discussed the importance of drug-free living and how drugs can affect their body, career and overall life.

The students at Biscayne Elementary not only had fun during Red Ribbon Week, they also learned the importance of saying no to drugs and sharing the information with family and friends.

Red Ribbon Week at Saint Clair Evans Academy

Saint Clair Evans students celebrated with many educational and fun events, such as "Hats Off to Saying No to Drugs," dressing tacky or mismatched to proclaim "Taking Drugs is Tacky," and wearing crazy socks for "Sock Out Drugs." Spirit contests, door decorating contests and a writing contest were also highlights during the week.

Students held a 'Say No to Drugs' parade through the community, and were joined by the Raines High School and Northwestern Middle School bands. The student council, safety patrol and Team Up cheerleaders, as well as Mr. McGruff the Crime Dog, were great additions to the parade.

This was a memorable week for students in carrying the message forward that "Saint Clair Evans students say NO to drugs."
