Students from
Mandarin Middle School's H.O.P.E. (Helping Our Students Prepare for Post-Secondary Education) Learn & Serve Initiative recently visited the campus of Jacksonville University.
Students attended a leadership course taught by Dr. Julius Demps, assistant professor of management at the school’s Davis College of Business.
After attending their first college class, students were taken on a tour of the campus where they visited the Student Commons, the dormitory and observed an interpretive dance class being taught on the campus green.
The H.O.P.E. Learn & Serve Initiative seeks to develop students’ academic, leadership and communication skills with goals of improving their academic performance, preparing them for rigorous coursework in high school, and developing their motivation and understanding of the successes that accompany higher education.
Several of the participating H.O.P.E. Scholars have already decided that Jacksonville University might be the college for them!
