Kirby-Smith Middle Challenger Learning Center Dedicates Rocket for Breast Cancer Awareness

The Kirby-Smith Middle School Challenger Learning Center S.T.a.R. Interns are competing in the national rocketry competition Team America Rocketry Challenge, which is sponsored annually by the aerospace industry.

As with each year of competition, the team names their rocket, and this year has decided to dedicate their rocket for breast cancer awareness.

“It’s awesome to see our students making a positive impact in our community by remembering those whose lives have been affected by this disease,” said Sheree' Kearns, the facilities director of the Challenger Learning Center.

Ms. Shavone Steele of the American Cancer Society worked with the team so they could fly their rocket with the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer stickers.

The students recently launched their BCA (breast cancer awareness) rocket on her maiden voyage, and will soon be sponsoring a school-wide competition at Kirby Smith to give the rocket her name.
