Thanks to the Dairy Council of Florida,
Atlantic Beach Elementary School received a donation to support Fuel Up to Play 60, a national in-school health and wellness program. The program encourages students to eat nutrient-rich foods and achieve at least 60 minutes of physical activity every day.
Fuel Up to Play 60 is part of the National Dairy Council and the National Football League, in collaboration with the United States Department of Agriculture. Thirty Florida schools were chosen for these awards of up to $4,000.
“These schools are leaders in the fight against childhood obesity, using the Fuel Up to Play 60 program as a way to make a difference,” said Jennifer Sills, director of dairy health and wellness for the Dairy Council of Florida.
Atlantic Beach Elementary will use the funds to encourage students to eat low-fat and fat-free dairy foods, fruits, vegetables and whole grains in addition to their daily exercise.
Florida schools have the opportunity to apply for the next Fuel Up to Play 60 funding period before February 1, 2012. For more information, visit the national website for Fuel Up to Play 60 at
