Arlington Heights Jumpstarts Celebrate Literacy Week

Cowboys and cowgirls were gathered together at Arlington Heights Elementary as the school participated in the first day of Celebrate Literacy Week, Florida!

Students came to school dressed in their favorite cowboy hat and boots while volunteers traveled to each class to read “Every Cowgirl Needs a Horse,” by Rebecca Janni. Parents, teachers, volunteers and even readers from Jacksonville University joined Arlington Heights as they sparked the fun in reading.

Principal Patricia Latimer led a school-wide assembly as everyone recited the Pledge of Allegiance. One class performed the song, “Saddle Up for a Reading Roundup!” with kindergarten through fifth-graders joining in the fun. Principal Latimer challenged each student to read with their families each night instead of turning on the television.
