Superintendent Ed Pratt-Dannals taught the first- and fifth-graders at
Lake Forest Elementary that reading will help students to succeed.
As part of the Real Men Read Celebration, Superintendent Pratt-Dannals visited the students to read "Stand Tall Molly Lou Melon" by Patty Lovell and "One Green Apple" by Eve Bunting. He was one of more than 30 influential men from the community who volunteered to read to students at Lake Forest Elementary.
After reading to the students, Superintendent Pratt-Dannals went through the summary of both books, helping them to think about the plot, theme, characters and climax of the books. He encouraged all students to work hard to achieve their dreams, beginning with reading as many books as possible.
"I urge you to continue reading," said Superintendent Pratt-Dannals. "Not only will it make you successful in school, but it will also take you through life's journeys. Reading is a different kind of learning."
The students and staff at Lake Forest Elementary were overjoyed to welcome the Superintendent and other community members to the school as they joined in the Celebrate Literacy Week activities. Students of Lake Forest Elementary will continue the week's celebration with a Family Literacy Night.
