The Wal-Mart Foundation and Facility #1444 have awarded the
Fort Caroline Middle School’s TEAM UP Program a grant through the Local Community Contribution/Hunger Outreach Grant Program in the amount of $3,000. The site director for Fort Caroline’s TEAM UP program, Diann Hayes, applied for the grant.
The grant will allow the TEAM UP students to prepare the grounds for a beautification project on the Fort Caroline Middle School campus. The students will research the top-of-the-line shrubs and vegetables for the area and how to care for them. The research will take place during the 70 minutes of TEAM UP academics that the program provides.
Fort Caroline’s science teachers will help with the research and the enrichment staff will provide guidance in planting the area. The plan is for a year-round beautification of the chosen area. The students will gain knowledge of plant growth, learn necessary work skills, complete the beautification of the campus and provide vegetables to school families.
