Terry Parker Students Man Up to Realize Their Dreams

Terry Parker High School put their resources together to deliver a moving presentation, the second annual Man Up Young Men's Conference. The conference brought students together to realize their dreams and encourage them to work until they become a reality.

Communities In Schools' site coordinator, Terra Harold-Jackson, gathered more than 200 students at Terry Parker High, Arlington Middle and Joseph Stilwell Middle schools for this conference.

Terry Parker's NJROTC started things off with the Pledge of Allegiance followed by the school's alma mater sung by the Terry Parker male choir. The step team also led an energized performance. No matter what these performances may show, the underlying message is clear. The commanding respect of NJROTC, the choir's soulful voices, and the precision of the step team were all a result of their dedication to what they love, their work, goals and dreams.

The conference host, Joseph Kohn, introduced Pastor Thomas David as he gave an inspirational speech about self advocating for a better future. Dr. Julius Demps spoke to the students by giving the men a new perspective on leadership and how it ought to be attained.

The students then had a chance to interact with and question successful men, including Leon Baxton, Gibson Holmes, Charles Griggs and Octavius Holiday. Communities In Schools' CEO, Mr. Heymann, closed out the conference to the sound of a standing ovation from a group of inspired high school men. Special thanks to these gentlemen and all those that volunteered to make the Man Up conference a success.
